SEPTEMBER 14, 2023
Volvo EX30

The Swedish brand will launch in our country its unprecedented 100% electric compact SUV produced with a high percentage of recycled materials. Initially there will be three versions and its price will start at $65,000. Three months after presenting it worldwide via streaming, Volvo has just launched the EX30 regionally in Brazil. Parabrisas traveled to Rio de Janeiro to get to know this unique compact SUV, one hundred percent electric, with which the Scandinavian brand intends to approach a more massive public. In order to achieve its goal of no longer marketing vehicles powered by internal combustion engines as of 2035, Volvo is launching this model and the C40 Recharge (which will soon be sold in Argentina) to democratize this technology and gain visibility in the increasingly voluminous and competitive B segment of the Sport Utility. With a very futuristic aesthetic and a body of pleasant proportions, the Volvo EX30 measures 4.23 meters long, 1.84 m wide and 1.56 m high, while the wheelbase is 2.65 meters and the trunk offers 400 liters of capacity. In addition to a clean front end (without grille) that highlights the reinterpretation of the classic headlights called "Thor's Hammer" and a tailgate with bipartite optical groups, the EX30 is characterized by being built with a high percentage of recycled materials (including aluminum and plastic) that are replicated in every corner of the passenger compartment. Inside, the environment is minimalist but reserves a large technological quota in the instruments (100% digital), the multifunction steering wheel with capacitive commands and a multimedia center with the latest generation of Volvo's operating system by Google, in addition to the digital key that manipulates various vehicle functions through a smartphone. 100 % electric mechanics up to 480 km of autonomy During the presentation event for the Latin American press, we were able to talk to brand executives, who confirmed that this model will arrive in Argentina in March 2024, will have a base price of US$65,000 and will initially be available in three versions. The most basic (called Core) will be equipped with the "Single Engine". This is an electric motor that produces 200 kW (about 272 hp) and delivers 343 Nm of maximum torque. This engine has a 49 kWh LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) battery pack and offers up to 344 kilometers of range. According to Volvo, with this configuration the EX30 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h, while it can charge from 10 to 80% of the batteries in 25 minutes: at 11 kW with alternating current and a maximum of 134 kW with direct current. The other two variants, called Plus and Ultra, will use the same Single Motor but with a higher-capacity "Extended Range" battery. With 64 kWh, this is of the NMC (nickel, cobalt and manganese) type and gives a range of up to 476 kilometers in WLTP cycle. It should be noted that all the above-mentioned versions have rear-wheel drive. However, in other markets a variant with all-wheel drive using the "Twin Motor Performance". This is a configuration that has two engines, whose combined power reaches 428 hp and 543 Nm of torque. This variant of the Volvo EX30 is also equipped with 64 kWh NMC batteries, but delivers extraordinary performance according to the manufacturer's data: accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds, while the estimated WLTP range is up to 460 kilometers and supports charging to a maximum of 153 kW. As usual with all Volvo vehicles, the level of safety will be one of its pillars. In that sense the EX30 has six airbags, ESP, ABS brakes, adaptive cruise control, cross-traffic alert and lane change, 360 camera and a package of driving assistance (Park Pilot Assist) that incorporates a new function to prevent occupants from opening the doors of the vehicle, for example, if it detects the passage of a cyclist.
